Life in the Indus Valley

The first urban civilization ,which is also among the world’s earlist civilizations ,began near the Indus River. They use the soil which gave by the river’s tide to grew crops. And this allowed them to build large cities.

The two largest cities of that time were Harappa and Mohenjo-Darp.They had a population of 35,000. There were wide main streets and smaller side streets.A wall surrounded each neighborhood. They built houses with mud bricks. And they had well supplied water and had indoor bathrooms ,etc. They had a lot of conveniences.

The royal palace and the temple in Harappa have been both enclosed in a forstress. So religion and politics were closely connected.

The Harappa people wore different clothes.Women dressd in colourful robes and wore jewelry, they also wore bracelet. In addition Harappans enjoyed dance and had great skill working with metals.

In the ancient city of Mohenjo-darp,people had a bath in a large central pool ,with steps leading down at both ends.Around this pool, there were small rooms for people to dress and there were smaller pools for people to have a private baths.

In Mohenjo-daro ,people had warm tasty wheat bread with barley or rice for dinner .And also famer grew peas、melons and dates.Farmers herded sheep 、pigs、zebus and water buffalo.Fish were caught in the river by fishhooks. Each town had a large building for grain this shows that people had a well supplied of food.

In a word ,the ancient people in Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were so wealthy and wise that I must praise them for their hard work.
