My Favorite Festival

There are always a lot of festivals in a year, no matter which country or state you live in. In China, Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year as a tradition. In the same way, American people really value Christmas. I have lived in China for a long time, but my favorite festival is still Christmas.

I like Christmas not only because Santa Claus gives us presents. What I like is the streets and avenues full of people, neon lights and Christmas trees. You can smell the scent of frosted Christmas cookies and pastries from the bakeries doing Christmas treat sale. Everyone in the streets is very friendly, saying “Merry Christmas” even to strangers. In one sentence, Christmas is the warmest day in the year, even when it is snowing.

In the house, children prepare cookies and milk and go to bed early, looking forward to presents from Santa Claus. Children in America believe that if you believe in Santa, you will get a present from him. It is true actually because I get presents from Santa every year. We wake up in the morning to see if Santa has left a gift for us. If there is one, we would jump up happily. That morning is probably the happiest one in the childhood.

This is Christmas: a warm night for the adults, a happy morning for the children, a busy but fun night for Santa Claus. Christmas is warm, happy, busy and fun. That is why I like it.
